Dogs very rarely “just play”. Dog play is not as simple as that. Play may be consensual, but it all too often creates arousal in both dogs. And arousal leads to escalating problems – and fights.
You may well have a dog who won’t they give up the ball. After all, you know you’ll throw it again for them.
