From your dog’s perspective, he’s become a master through practice. it’s a great habit. It works. But it’s embarrassing for you and it’s easy to become frustrated with your dog for reacting like that. And if it happens every day, or most days, it becomes an ingrained habit.
Every similar experience your dog has cements the behaviour he does. Practice produces progress – allowing your dog to practice unwanted behaviours will never, ever change the behaviour.
As in all things, prevention is far easier than cure. As we ease out of lockdown it’s worth starting now to prepare your dog for being left alone once you go back to work or school.
