March challenge 13
here are three training successes you probably want from your dog. These are that your dog walks nicely on lead, all the time; that she comes back when you call her – every time; and that your dog doesn’t jump up at visitors

Find something new to teach your dog. The reason for this challenge is so I can tell/remind you about the steps you need to go through when teaching your dog something new.
Really focus on your dog when you go on your walk today. Then record what happened in your diary. Do an honest analysis. What could you improve? What have you been forgetting to do? Are you making sure your dog is calm before leaving the house? Are you taking enough time at the start to make sure your dog is clear what you want?
This challenge isn’t about training something new, it’s all about improving something your dog can do – just not quite as well as you’d like.
So today’s challenge is to go somewhere different for a walk. Even going a different route, or going the opposite way round your circular walk is a change.
Training your dog to be happy to be touched and handed all over, including being brushed and combed and having nails clipped, is really important for their mental health.
You need to decide what the annoying thing is you want to change about your dog’s behaviour. Once you’ve decided what it is, make a plan to deal with it and /or change things.
Today’s challenge is just to watch your dog today and write down FIVE (more if you want!) things you love about her. Things that make you glad he’s your dog. Things that make you laugh.
Play with the toy with your dog for a few seconds at least three times during the walk. Play in different places. Your aim is to show your dog that you’re fun to be with.
Training a good recall is a training essential. For today’s challenge I’d like you to choose a recall game you understand and feel your dog could do, one that reflects where you currently are with training your dog to always come when called.
