Happy Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s day today. I’ve made two cards to give Himself – and he’ll give me the one I made for him to give me four years ago….luckily I like it.

I hope you have a wonderful day with your loved ones, human and/or canine.

And I want to send love to all of you for being mad or kind enough to keep reading these emails.

I love getting feedback so if you want to help me enjoy a special day then replying to this email to tell me the sorts of things that you’d find helpful or want me to cover in future missives will make my day special.

Our dogs have no idea about Valentine’s day or any other celebration day, but they do know what makes their day special. And that’s play. Dogs rarely play much with toys that are lying around, they prefer interactive play with their beloved owner(s).

So whether you throw a ball or frisbee for your dog, or play tug games, or simply do some training – after all, training is just playing games, at least it is the way we teach it on our Perfect Pet courses – please have some fun with your dog today.

Play is a key way to build your relationship – dogs and humans that play together, stay together. Both in terms of long term living together, but also in terms of not running off and staying close to you when out and about.

Most people who have dogs give them a walk every day, but not nearly as many set aside playtime with their dogs every day. And it’s the latter that’s more important for your bond to grow and strengthen.

So go and make Valentine’s day special for your dog – play!

Keep training (and playing)
