I’ve always got stuff to do – I don’t have time to be bored…

But your dog might be bored. For many dogs, dinner time, a walk and cuddles is all they have to fill their day. Which leaves a lot of time doing nothing.

So today I want to suggest a few ways to beat boredom – for you and your dog.

  1. Play! – have fun with your dog, playing tug, fetch, hide and seek or whatever other game you both enjoy. Indoors or outdoors, it doesn’t matter. Have fun together.
  2. Get moving – you know exercise is good for you and your dog, so get out on a sniff walk. Try a new venue, place or type of scenery. Focus on the here and now – what you can see, hear, feel and smell – and let your dog use their nose as much as they want.
  3. Be social – visit a friend, family or a dog friendly café and watch the world go by. A change of scene is good for everyone. Let your dog play with their best friend while you and your best friend have a catch up and natter.
  4. Learn – teach your dog a new trick or practice a forgotten game from your Perfect Pet course. Build a better relationship, refresh the basics of walking on a lose lead, practice recall or work on improving greeting manners.
  5. Ban the bowl – give your dog fun ways to eat their food, from food toys, scatter feeding or snuffle mats to following food trails or seeking hidden treasure, there’s nothing else quite so tiring and satisfying for dogs as using their noses

Keep training and stay safe,
