March challenge 4

To practise at least one recall game in at least THREE different places on your walk

I’ve got an ear worm. No idea why. It’s going round and round in my head until I want to tear my ears off to let it out.

It’s “my boomerang won’t come back”, by Charlie Drake. Part of it goes:
“My boomerang won’t come back
My boomerang won’t come back
I’ve waved the thing all over the place
Practiced till I was black in the face
I’m a big disgrace to the Aborigine race
My boomerang won’t come back”

Sure it’s probably very politically incorrect now, but it was funny.

That earworm then reminded me of a joke: What do you call a boomerang that won’t come back?
A stick.

You can smile at that – but if your dog won’t come back when you call, it’s no laughing matter.

Either you let him run up to other people and other dogs and be a total pest, or you are a responsible owner and keep him on lead.
Whichever way you choose (and I hope it’s the second option), it’s no fun for you, your dog or for other owners and dogs.

Training a good recall is a training essential.

For today’s challenge I’d like you to choose a recall game you understand and feel your dog could do, one that reflects where you currently are with training your dog to always come when called.

Once you’ve decided which game (or games) to play, think about your next walk. Where would be good places to practice?

Then load up your treat bag with yummy treats and off you go.

Keep training,

Carol
