Why I’m embarrassed today

Disaster

Panic

I sat frozen for a few seconds while my heart raced, my stomach dropped through the floor and my brain tried to compute the enormity of the error.

It was 6.57pm and I was trying to click on the link for my “How to Become a Dog Trainer webinar” starting at 7pm.

Somehow I clicked on the back button instead of copy and the event vanished, triggering a cancellation email.

Four scrambled minutes later I sent an apology email confirming the event WAS happening (with the correct link)

I apologise to anyone who had booked to come and missed it in this confusion. We recorded it, so you can watch it here: https://www.downdog.co.uk/academy.

It’s easy to make silly mistakes when training your puppy too. A couple of weeks after I got Gus I took him out with me while I ran a class. He was slightly timidly saying hello to the three other dogs when one turned and woofed at him and Gus yelped in fear and ran towards me.

This was just at the peak of the first fear period all puppies have, a vital point in their socialisation. I should have picked Gus up and given him a cuddle, but I was talking to a client so I just smiled and said “silly boy”.

That was eight years ago and I’ve beaten myself up about it ever since – if I had picked him up then I just might have helped significantly his fear of noises that has been, and still is, my main problem with him. I’ll never know.

We want to help you avoid silly mistakes with your pup.

Luckily I’m far better at training people and dogs than I am working on computers.

Keep training and keep safe,

Carol
