Cheese spread warning

Gus loves Primula cheese spread and I often recommend it for use in Kongs or lickimats as a treat.

But today I want to warn you to be careful. Yesterday the firm that makes it issued a warning about the 100gm and 150 gm tubes. Apparently, a bacterial contaminant, called Clostridium botulinum, has been found in a number of tubes and it appears to have been introduced during the processing.

The affected tubes are:
150g tubes (all varieties) with best before dates between 25.12.20 and 28.01.21, and
100g tubes (all varieties) with best before dates between 30.10.20 and 10.12.20

So check your tubes. Those with different best before dates are fine to use.

The advice is to return all tubes of Primula to the shop where they were bought for a full refund – the advice they’ve given to retailers is to provide the refund even if you no longer have the receipt.

They are doing all they can to make sure this problem is eliminated and want to reassure everyone that Primula tubes will be back on the market again very soon.

So please find other things to use in your Kongs and lickimats until then – wet dog food or peanut butter (check there’s no xylitol) will both work just as well.

While we’re talking about food, a quick reminder – we recommend that you don’t feed your dog in a bowl, but instead, use that food as training treats throughout the day and for recall practice at mealtimes. If you have any over, use it in food toys and snuffle mats or for food games.

It’s amazing how simple it is to use your dog’s own food as the reward in our easy, quick basic training games, such as the ones we teach in our signature Perfect Pet course.

The course will also act as a great refresher if you’ve let your training slack off recently. Perhaps your dog has started pulling on lead again, or won’t come back when you call, or has started jumping up at every person they meet. Or perhaps they’ve started to object when you want to brush them or trim their nails.

Join us to learn how to use games to deal with all these annoying habits. Just don’t use Primula cheese spread as treats for now!

Keep training and keep safe,

Carol
