I challenge you to fill your boots (or at least your Kongs)

I should have been in Prague this weekend for a long overdue break with Daughter no 2, but of course that fell by the wayside. We’ve re-booked for next year, so we can look forward to that, but I am sad we can’t go at the moment. So instead I’m going to be sitting outside hopefully in warm sunshine and reading books. I hope you are getting some downtime and rest, too.

We’ll also be eating food from the freezer – home-made frozen leftovers and quick easy cook meals so I can have a bit of a break from the kitchen too. I do get very tired of cooking, mainly of thinking of what to cook and planning it all. Dogs are easier to feed in that way.

How are you feeding your dog? As you know, we are great proponents of never feeding in a bowl. We prefer to feed most food by hand as rewards in training, but we also feed via all sorts of food toys.

I love Kongs. They used to be labelled as the world’s best dog toy and I still think they are well up there on any list.

The wonderful Kong can be filled with all sorts of goodies: kibble either soaked in warm water or mixed with something like cream cheese or wet dog food; a squirted line or two of cream cheese or peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it though), mashed potato with bits of kibble, carrot, green beans, peas – whatever your dog likes. You can even make frozen Kongsicles using stock – just remember to block the tiny hole at the bottom first!

We’ve got lots of ideas for fun food fillings as a free downloadable helpsheet on the website here. Have a browse.

Keep training and keep safe,

Carol
