Do you pat your dog?

Touch.

One of the five main senses you share with your dog.

Fuss and touch praise are important to show your dog they’ve done something you wanted. And touch is an important way you show your dog you love them.

But what sort of touch?

Patting dogs on the head is a very human behaviour – but one that isn’t liked by the majority of dogs.

Humans seem to pat dogs more when the human is on edge, too. I often cringe in the vets waiting room as I watch nervous owners patting their dogs on the head and the dogs ducking away from that touch.

Today’s Talking Tip all about using touch as praise but making sure it’s a touch your dog loves.
