Get down, Shep!

If you’re a certain age you’ll probably remember John Noakes and his Blue Peter collie Shep and that immortal phrase, given in exasperated tones, whenever Shep jumped up at someone.  (I fondly remember Petra, too but she was better behaved.) “Get down, Shep!” was even made into a pop song I think.

Jumping up is frustrating for owners and for their visitors. It’s the first unwanted behaviour I get asked about by many clients. There are several reasons why dogs jump up – it’s something puppies do naturally and most dogs get our attention by doing it – it’s not an easy behaviour to ignore.

Luckily it’s relatively easy to stop by teaching your dog to expect or do something different instead.

I tell you how to deal with jumping up and many more problem behaviours in my new book, Problem Pooch to Perfect Pet book 1: Troublesome to Tranquil.

Keep training,

Carol
