Have you bought all your presents, or do you need some fresh ideas about what to buy for someone? If they own a dog, then why not buy a book? Specifically, one of my Doggy Doctor series , which will make great stocking fillers and presents
Are you ready for Christmas? Or are you a Christmas eve shopper?
Himself is the epitome of the latter, going out at the last minute and chucking whenever he sees into a basket, then wrapping it at 23.59pm on Christmas Eve. His shopping habits have improved since he retired, although presents are still wrapped as late as possible.
But I like to plan ahead for the presents I want to buy.
When Daughters No 1 and 2 were small, they often wanted the “in” toy for that year. Ah, those days of trawling round the local toy shops, fighting through hordes of other parents hell-bent on not missing out for their own children, and staggering home under a wobbly pile of purchases, planning where to hide them from prying eyes, having spent half the gross domestic product of a small country. I don’t miss those bad old days.
Thinking of what to buy is now my main bugbear. My family are all adults who have most of the things they need and I dread buying stuff they neither want nor appreciate. Luckily, we are all avid readers so books are always welcome gifts. Or bookshelves…
Are you still in agonies of indecision about what to buy for someone?
Do your friends have dogs?
If they own a dog, then why not buy a book? Specifically, one of my books. My Doggy Doctor series is available from Amazon (in Kindle or paperback) or from the website. They make great stocking fillers and presents.
Pesky Puppy to Perfect Pet
From considering getting a puppy or new dog through the manic first few weeks, this book is a puppy bible for new owners, covering what to do about those pesky puppy problems as well as the essential socialisation and training you need to do so you’ll have the perfect pet you always wanted.
Chaos to Calmish: Diary of a Pesky Puppy’s First Year
This is the honest, contemporaneous diary of the first year of Gus’s life, to show, warts and all, what life is like day-to-day with a new puppy. It describes the things I did well and explains where I could have done things better. I’m honest about the mistakes I made and how readers can avoid them. And it’s got plenty of lovely pictures of my gorgeous Gus.
Problem Pooch Book 1: Troublesome to Tranquil
The first book in the three-book Problem Pooch series covers sixteen common problem behaviours you might face in and around the home. I explain the possible reasons why your dog might choose to act in that way, then give you a range of tips you can try to change that unwanted behaviour in your own dog. (Book 2, Stressed to Serene, will be out early next year – watch this space!)
HELP! How to socialise your puppy during lockdown
This book gives you easy to follow, practical advice and tips on how to socialise your new puppy when you can’t get out much, or at all, due to life limitations. The critical and vital advice in the book applies in all ‘normal’ times too.
Please may I have a puppy?
This book, aimed especially at children aged 6-14, will tell you what you need to know before getting a puppy, how to choose the right puppy, what to do from the day you bring them home and what you need to teach your puppy to be your perfect pet.
Doggy Doctor Surgery Secrets
This book tells my story – about how working as a doctor helped me become a leading dog trainer and behaviourist, The Doggy Doctor and how this makes me uniquely positioned to help others wanting to become dog trainers. In it, I share how my experience in medicine can help people build their knowledge, confidence and skills to become effective, empathetic dog professionals in their own right.
Of course, you can buy them for yourself, too! Why not collect the whole series…
Keep training and stay safe,
Carol
