In this week’s doggy advice video we talk about when is the best time to spay your female dog. And are there any possible health issues to her?
Last week we talked about neutering male dogs. This week’s Down Dog Digestible is all about spaying females.
Should you wait a bit longer to spay your dog?
Today we chat about when the best time to spay is. Many vets promote early spays. I explain why my preference is to wait a bit longer. As with males, size and breed matters, as larger dogs and the larger breeds takes longer to mature.
We chat about breast cancer risk, pyometra (pus in the uterus) and various other health issues that are helped by spaying, along with other physical reasons for having your bitch spayed.
I explain why I would always spay (at the right time), though I would not always neuter, we discuss that rescues often want dogs neutered and spayed early and chat about the new laparascopic spay and other different types of spay.
We also talk about reasons who you might want to delay a spay.
Our Down Dog Digestible tips cover all sort of dog related questions on our website
