Is your lead clip safe?

Sadly a dog has died because a lead clip failed. The one year old beagle harrier, Archie, was struck by a van when he ran across the road after the clip on his new Kong lead gave way suddenly.

Why Kong had to withdraw one of their leads

Kong have now withdrawn the leads from sale, but I thought it was worth just remaining you to check your equipment regularly. Lead clips can and do fail, so make sure they are safe.

The Kong lead that caused the disaster is shown below. It has a carabiniere type clip which do seem to fail more often than any other type. We recommend the other type of clip, shown in the photo of one of our leads, also below.

It’s important to check your dog walking equipment
