How often do you walk your dog?

Are your walks a joy or a chore? Having a dog should be a joy and a pleasure. And that includes daily walks. But around 20% of dogs don’t get out for a walk every day

Chatting to a dog owner about walking her dog

“So how often do you walk your dog?” I asked.

She looked sheepish and couldn’t meet my eye.

“Well, I try to get out with him….” her voice tailed away, “But he’s so strong he pulled me over a couple of weeks ago, and the weather’s been so bad and the children have so much on …and, well, we’ve got a large garden he can run around in and I throw a ball for him every day.”

This is not an unusual situation.

Having a dog should be a joy and a pleasure. And that includes daily walks.

Around 20% of dogs don’t get out for a walk every day.

Chasing a ball in the garden may provide some physical exercise but does very little for your dog’s mental health.

Walking your dog should be a daily activity you look forward to. It’s a chance to get some fresh air and exercise and it’s an essential outlet for your dog to have a chance to be a dog, sniffing around, seeing what’s going on, checking their pee-mail and getting that all important mental and physical workout.

Even in the rain.

Does your dog pull on lead?

Are your walks a chore rather than a delight?

Then why not sign up for our Wonderful Walkies Masterclass, two 90 minute sessions over two weeks. We’ll teach you how to train your dog to walk nicely on lead and give you specific individual advice if you need so you can both enjoy your walks together.

And my client?

After a harness fit and some basic training, things were better and the owner and her dog were able to go out walking every day again – and enjoy it.

Keep training and stay safe,

Carol
