How to teach a reliable recall

Why we’re so proud of Tippi’s calming behaviour

Does your dog come back when you call them, first time, every time? If you’re sheepishly answering ‘no’, then we can teach you the secret that underpins a great recall using games and our special formula!

Why we’re so proud of Tippi’s calming behaviour

“Your dog never takes her eyes off you!”

So said one of our clients at a visit last week, as their dog pulled and yapped towards Tippi.

We were using Tippi as a stooge dog to help us teach our client’s dog to be calm near other dogs. Tippi is such a beautifully calm dog and ignores any nonsense from other dogs. She only has eyes for Gareth. We use Gus as well sometimes, but he’s not always as calm as Tippi!

Gareth is justifiably proud of Tippi, who is a great advert for Down Dog. Her obedient behaviour is due to two main things:

  • the hours of practice and care Gareth has taken to teach and help her understand what he wants
  • the hours they spend together building a great relationship and a strong bond

Of course her basic personality helps too, but it is the above work that means Tippi WANTS to stay close to Gareth – she can fret when she is not with him. She watches him all the time. And her recall is stellar. She reliably comes when she is called, first time, every time.

Can you say that about your dog?

Does your dog come back when you call, first time, every time?

Reliably coming back when called means you can let your dog off lead in the confident knowledge they will come back. And it means your dog can have more freedom.

I’m sure you’ve seen the viral video of Fenton chasing deer and his owner screaming “Fenton” in a futile chase. No-one wants to be that owner. Oh, the embarrassment, the shame.

We teach you how to train a great recall as part of our Perfect Pet course, but we also run an occasional Recall Masterclass where we focus purely on teaching recall and give you all the games you need to produce a Reliable Recall.

We’re running one on Saturday 14th August from 2-3.30pm at our Glastry Road base.

What we can teach you and your dog

You’ll learn:

  • the secret that underpins a great recall
  • the games to play that create reliability in your recall
  • the secret formula that tells you when you can confidently let your dog off lead – and when you shouldn’t
  • more advanced games to proof your recall against the many distractions that would otherwise sabotage your efforts

If you are fed up with your dog not listening to you and running off, then change that now. Book your place today – we only have limited slots.

Make this the summer when you are proud of your dog’s reliable recall!

Keep training and stay safe,

Carol
