To neuter or not to neuter…

In this week’s doggy advice we chat about when to neuter your dog – what signs to look out for and when works best for different sizes and breeds

That’s the question we hope to help you with today!

This week’s Down Dog Digestible is all about neutering male dogs.

We chat about why a blanket “neuter at 6 months” rule is not helpful for many breeds and why neutering early can cause problems. Dogs need to have the testosterone surge that happens in adolescence to help their bodies mature properly, including the brain and skeleton.

We give you a simple marker to tell if your dog has had their hormone surge and suggest how to use that to decide when to neuter – if you want to – and I give you a rough guide as to when different sizes of dogs are best neutered.

Different countries have different neutering policies

We also talk about why different countries have different policies and why neutering is NOT a good idea if your dog is fearful or reactive.

You can find today’s Digestible here along with all the others from previous weeks.

Please do write in and ask if you have a question you’d love us to answer. I want to make sure these Digestibles answer any doggy queries you have.

Enjoy!

Keep safe,

Carol
