Why I’m feeling serene – and so can your dog

Training your dog to be comfortable and calm on their own from the start is a vital part of training and something that has been easy to overlook in the past year – our Serene Separation puppy and dog training course gives you a detailed plan to help you and your dog

Second vaccinations and my mum’s coming to visit!

Today, as you read this, I’ll be having my second COVID vaccine. In one further week I’ll have my full immunity. I’m so pleased – it’s an important milestone in us getting back to normal.

I’ve not planned to do much for the next couple of days, as last time I had quite a nasty reaction, with a headache, shivers, a temperature and other flu like symptoms. Luckily it only lasted a short time then I was fine. I’ll be prepared this time though quite a few of my friends have said they didn’t have a reaction to the second jab. Fingers crossed!

Finally it feels like things are slowly opening up. My mum is looking forward to coming into our house again – she still hasn’t seen our “new” settee which arrived last May! Things are still far from normal, but they are getting better.

Our dogs need help to adapt to the ‘new normal’ as much as we do

Things are getting better for our dogs too. Our classes are now back running in person – and outside only isn’t such a problem in spring and summer. Although there are one or two problems we’re seeing, one of which is dogs who are unhappy at being left alone.

That’s why we are running our Serene Separation course, an online three-week course starting on Wednesday 26th (this week). If your dog annoys your neighbours by barking or howling when left alone, or destroys your fixtures and fittings when you aren’t there to supervise, this course gives you a detailed plan to help your dog learn to be comfortable and calm when left. Teaching your dog to be comfortable being left alone is vital for their own welfare as well as your pocket.

Hear what our previous students are saying:

“Great course. The benefits: practical, accessible, and supportive. Plus, a calmer relationship with my dog, more personal space and peace of mind. Dog much less stressed and quite happy when I leave her or go out. “

“We loved that it was just a small group of people so everyone had a chance to ask questions. I particularly appreciate the Facebook group and whats App groups created specifically to upload videos and ask further questions. We have been following your advice and practicing various exercises for 4 weeks now. Our dog is a lot more independent around the house. Reading back my “Separation Anxiety Diary” I am amazed at how quickly he’s learnt not to follow us around and take himself to his crate.”

Are you a potential Nose Nerd?

Also on Saturday our Nose Nerds group was able to meet in person to search for various items and clues. We marvelled at the amazing abilities of our dogs to find items that had been hidden many hours previously. Everyone had a great time and all the dogs were happy and tired. We meet every month on the fourth Saturday as part of the Nose Nerds or Devotee membership – come and join us if you want to learn more, marvel at your dog’s superpower, learn new games every week in our online Academy – and support Medical Detection Dogs at the same time.

Keep training and stay safe,

Carol
