How a passing comment led to success

Setting up for a display at Stormont a couple of years ago, I was hailed by an owner. “I want to ask you for some help,” she panted, as she was unceremoniously dragged past at quite a rate of knots by her large Munsterlander.

Thirty yards further on she finally managed to turn back. “He’s a bit strong,“ she continued as she came back into earshot, “I can’t…” but the rest of her sentence was lost as she careered onwards past me, in the wake of her large and determined dog.

A minute later she came back a third time. This time she managed to stop, though possibly only because the dog decided to have a good sniff at something in the verge.

It turned out she had only had the dog for a few weeks, having fallen in love with him at the rescue centre. She had no idea about his history but it was clear he’d never been taught to walk nicely on lead and she dared not let him off lead as she was pretty sure she wouldn’t be able to get him back.

We were delighted to help her. She came to one of our courses and worked enthusiastically to train her gorgeous dog, very successfully.

Her proudest moment was two months later when she reported back to me that she was complimented by a passing owner on a walk about what a well-behaved dog she had.

Are you proud of your dog when you’re out and about? Can you walk your dog with pride and allow them off lead freedom knowing they will come back when you call?

Perhaps not until you join one of our Masterclasses, where you’ll learn the secrets of how to  teach your dog to walk nicely on lead, or how to teach a fast, reliable recall using our game based approach. You can find out more and book by going to the website here: https://www.downdog.co.uk/Clinics

Join us for the fun and games. You and your dog will both enjoy your outings with pride afterwards.

Keep training and keep safe,

Carol
