Isn’t it odd how things come in threes? There’s the old joke about buses of course, but I’ve often noticed over the past few years just how many things come in threes. If I get one case of a particular behaviour problem, then I’ll very often have a couple more similar cases within the same month. If I get asked about one training problem by a client I can almost guarantee that I’ll get another two queries on the same thing within a week.
Recently I’ve had three people talk to me about starting a career in the pet industry, either grooming, dog walking or dog training.
It’s led me to wonder how many more people are thinking about a career with dogs.
Have you ever thought about that?
Perhaps you love walking and love dogs, so you’ve thought about becoming a dog walker.
Or perhaps you’ve used the lockdown opportunity to train online and learn how to groom dogs because you want to start a grooming business.
Or perhaps you’ve always had dogs, you’ve helped at a rescue for a time and feel you’ve learnt enough by now to want to become a dog trainer.
Perhaps it’s just something you consider to be a pipe dream – but secretly it’s what you’ve always wanted to do.
I’d love to know what’s stopping you taking that leap. Do you feel you don’t know enough about dogs, or that you haven’t enough experience? Or that you’re not sure what you need to know?
I’d also love to know what your biggest worry is about making such a career change. Do you think you’re not good enough, or you don’t know enough? Or do you worry you might not be able to control other people’s dogs, or that you might get bitten?
Keep training and keep safe,
Carol
