This week’s Talking Tip is all about barking. You can find today’s Talking Tip here along with all the others from previous weeks
There are loads of different types of barking. Most dogs will alert bark when visitors come, or when they see or hear something, or something passes by, or they want to play, or they want your attention – there are many different barks.
In today’s Talking Tip you’ll hear me rehearse my best dog barks – and Tippi and Gus join in!
Find out why it’s so important to work out WHY your dog is barking – because working out the why is the key to understanding and then dealing with it.
My friend and fellow dog trainer Claire Lawrence talked about this in her talk at this week’s Corona-exit Canine Conference where she also talked about stopping your dog practising the behaviour, the importance of reducing arousal levels and setting up your dog for success by giving the right sort of exercise.
Last Monday at the Conference I talked about a particular type of barking – the barking that results from frustration, a common reason for barking and one reason why your lovely, friendly dog can turn into a barking maniac when they see another dog.
Keep training and keep safe,
Carol
