Choosing the right breed is important

In a recent blog I talked about the problem of indiscriminate breeding in puppy farms and from puppy smuggling that leaves new owners struggling with health and behaviour problems in their new puppy.

Today’s Talking Tip is all about how important it is to choose the right breed to fit in to your family and  lifestyle and the activities you might want to do.

You can find the Tip here: https://www.downdog.co.uk/tips

Different breeds vary hugely  – dogs vary more in size, shape and appearance than any other animal on this planet, mainly because of human intervention in their development.

Dog personality and behaviour is influenced by many, many genes, and if you breed for traits such as looks or performance, then your ability to guarantee particular personality and behavioural results in the puppy goes out the window.

I strongly believe that we should be breeding for temperament, not looks, because that’s what we need more of in the pet dog population. More on this another time!

In the meantime, please do check out all the information we have on the website about how to choose the right dog for you.

Our free webinar and accompanying notes provide loads of advice on how to go about finding your perfect pet – where to look, what to look for and what to consider.

And we will also come with you, for free, to help you choose your new pup.

Please pass on this information to anyone you know who is thinking about getting a dog.

Keep training,

Carol
