Why you should pay attention to your dog

How long would you last in an empty room with no TV, radio, magazines, books, puzzles, or even worse, no craft stuff?

I would get bored and antsy fairly quickly.

Boredom is a problem I almost never have, because I’m a bookworm – you’ll always find me with my head buried in a book every day at some point – and I have a range of other crafty hobbies, as well as my fascination with all things doggy.

But your dog has very little each day to entertain him – a walk, yes, and two meals, but perhaps little else. So, your dog finds things to occupy him. One of the most common, and one of the most ignored, is him looking at you and paying you attention.

In today’s Talking Tip Gareth and I chat about how you can build your bond and improve your training with your dog with almost no effort, simply by paying attention to your dog.

It’s the first and perhaps most important game we play in our Perfect Pet classes – Eyes on Me – and it’s so important. It’s the foundation of your relationship. Without being able to get your dog’s attention you can’t train him.

So thank him for any attention you notice today – and we want you to watch for it!

Keep training,
