Is your puppy naughty or nice?

A strangled shriek reverberated around our house yesterday as Himself remonstrated with naughty Gus about getting under Himself’s feet. I just smiled. Gus had been so nice last Saturday.

There had been a ridiculous amount of shooting going on around us. Regular readers may remember that Gus is noise sensitive and, up to three months ago, that amount of shooting would have left him trembling and hiding in a corner of the barn. But not on Saturday. Finally, all the hard work I’ve put in is working and he was able to cope pretty well – and work a great Rally round, too.

This week I put my Christmas decorations up. Gus is very good around them and leaves them well alone, but a friend of mine has a Dogue de Bordeaux who pulled their whole tree down last year trying to pull a bauble off it. I’m not sure he got any presents from Santa after that…

No dog is perfect, but if you get your training right from the start, you’ll have a dog who spends most of his time being nice rather than naughty.

I tell you how in my book, Pesky Puppy to Perfect Pet, a puppy bible. It tells you how to raise your puppy to be the pet you want – how to deal with those annoying puppy problems and how to train him easily and quickly to do all the things all dogs should know, such as walk on a loose lead, come back when called, keep all four paws on the floor when greeting people, and accept and enjoy being handled. And quite a bit more besides!

My Pesky Puppy book is available from Amazon, in Kindle form. It would make a great Christmas present for anyone you know whose puppy is a bit naughty.

(You can also read my story with Gus in Chaos to Calmish: Diary of a Pesky Puppy’s First Year, also available from Amazon and also on special offer on Kindle this week.)

Keep training,

Carol
