How to find the right puppy

Once you’ve made the decision and decided you can afford both the time and the money required, you need to find the right puppy.

There’s a few things you need to consider when considering a puppy or a rescue dog:

– every single dog is different, within the same breed and even within the same litter. Just because you had a certain breed as a child you probably won’t find one the same
– having a breed registered puppy or a cross-breed/mongrel is not a guarantee of good health, temperament or longevity
– some (mainly working) breeds are just not suited to being a family pet. Never decide on looks alone
–  puppies are not clean slates – they come with genetic, maternal and environment baggage, even at 8 weeks old
– you need to be prepared (and have the time) for a few weeks of constant work to help your new dog settle in properly, teach house-training and make sure they are properly socialised

Our free pre-pup purchase masterclass, available from our website, gives you all the information you need to help you decide whether a puppy or a rescue dog would be best for you.

And that’s not all. We also offer FREE individual advice to anyone thinking of buying a puppy or rescue dog. We’ll help you decide on a breed or type that will suit you and your lifestyle best, and/or, if you want, we’ll come with you, where possible, to advise on and assess any prospective puppy or rescue dog you’re considering.

There’s nothing worse than realising you might have got the wrong dog for you. Use our help to get it as right as possible from the very start.

If you, or someone you know, has already decided on getting a puppy, then I’ve got a great Christmas offer for you. My book, Pesky Puppy to Perfect Pet, is available from Amazon, in paperback or Kindle form. It’s a puppy bible and contains everything you need to know to raise the Perfect Pet of your dreams.

(If you want to find out how I raised my current dog, our story is in Chaos to Calmish: Diary of a Pesky Puppy’s First Year, also available from Amazon and also on special offer on Kindle this week.)

Keep training,

Carol
