Once upon a time I had a problem dog

Many years ago I had a problem dog. My problem dog was an apprehensive, fearful dog who was scared of his own shadow. He was suspicious of everything. He was reluctant to leave the house to go for walks, hated loud noises and sudden movements, and even had to be taught to play. Worse, he snapped at me fairly often and bit me several times, seemingly out of the blue.

It hurts when your dog is not what you expected. You’re unhappy, lost and confused.

You expect your dog to be perfect just because he’s a dog.

But no-one has told the dog. He has his own unique mix of behaviours, mannerisms and energy levels. Your dog will behave just like a dog. He’s not a mini-human.

My problem dog taught me a huge amount. He was the main reason I became a dog trainer and behaviourist.

My new book, Problem Pooch to Perfect Pet, Book 1: Troublesome to Tranquil, covers 16 of the common problems you might face as a dog owner and how to fix them.

If you’re struggling with your dog’s behaviour, please ask me for help. There’s the option of an in-person Doggy Doctor House Call or an online Consultation Call – check them out on our website.

Keep training,

Carol
