“My dog would never bite”

A child needed 80 stitches to her head and body after being attacked by an off-lead dog while she played football in a Belfast park last weekend – it took two men several attempts to get the dog off her.

Belfast City Council dog wardens are investigating after the incident was reported to the police.

I feel horrified when I hear of these attacks as I’m sure you do.

You don’t want to think that your pampered pet pooch could bite someone. It’s common for our clients to say “My dog would never bite someone.”

Of course, it’s unusual for a dog to attack a stranger so severely – that’s why these stories make the news. But any dog can bite – they’ve all got strong, pointy teeth that can cause nasty injuries.

It’s so simple to minimise the risk of your dog biting by raising a confident dog who understand our crazy human world and has learnt to cope with the things life will throw at him or her. But you need to know what to do.

Perhaps that bite could have been prevented – if the owners had kept the dog on lead, or if they had a great recall, or if the dog had been used to children playing.

Our Perfect Pet courses teach you how to raise a confident, well-behaved family pet as well as teach you how to cope with difficult situations. The next courses start mid June and we’re taking bookings now.  Just go to the website to find out when and where our next courses are running and to book.

Your dog can bite. Let’s work together to make sure he never does.

Keep training
