Are you or your dog stressed?

Life is tough for all of us at the moment, so having a dog that gives you anxiety and stress makes things worse. In person I can only help one owner and dog at a time

Why are my emotions all over the place?

I’ve had a difficult weekend for all sorts of reasons. I felt very uncomfortable somewhere I normally love and was more than confused about why. I’ve been restless and irritable. I’ve swung from determination to make the most of the situation to feeling it was all hopeless. Anxiety and upset overwhelmed me and I was battling to find any sort of peace. It was difficult to focus on what I needed to do and my emotions were all over the place.

I was stressed.

What is stress exactly?

Stress is the body’s reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure. Stress can be the result of situations or events, especially where you might be overwhelmed by a pile of things to do, or where you don’t have control over what happens.

Stress is debilitating. It’s difficult to plan or be rational. You experience emotional roller-coasters and swing from giving yourself a good talking-to, to despair. It’s tough to be stressed – and it’s also tough to live with someone who is stressed.

Your dog can get stressed too, for all sorts of reasons. Which can make you stressed.

Feeling stressed every day is wearing. You want to tear walls down with your teeth, you yell at the smug politicians on TV who have no clue about the real life struggle to feed children and heat homes, you weep enough tears of frustration to add to rising sea levels when you hear about the massive profits energy firms are making.

Life is tough for all of us at the moment, so having a dog that gives you anxiety and stress makes things worse.

What I can offer you to help you and your dog

In person I can only help one owner and dog at a time. So I’m finally just about to publish my next book, the second in the Problem Pooch series. It’s called Problem Pooch 2: Stressed to Serene and will be out very soon.

You’ll find out why dogs (and owners) get stressed, learn about common fears, naughty dogs, and noisy dogs, and how to deal with these common problems.

Watch out for more about it in future emails.

In the meantime, if you are stressed by your dog, please ask for help and support. See what we offer on our website.

I needed support this weekend. And  Himself and Daughter no 2 rose magnificently to the challenge.

Keep training and stay safe,

Carol
